3D 4D Ultrasound - Frequently Asked Questions:
What is 3D and 4D Ultrasound?
3D ultrasound
is simply the computers ability to use standard ultrasound technology and display
this in a 3D image. 4D ultrasound means you can see these 3D images almost instantaneously
(real-time 3D)
Is 3D 4D Ultrasound Safe for Me and My Baby?
Hundreds of studies have
confirmed the safety of ultrasound to the mother and baby. As 3D and 4D ultrasounds
use the same ultrasound energy and intensity as standard 2D ultrasound, it is just
as safe.
Does this take the place of my doctor’s Ultrasound?
No. We at Shutterbugs Ultrasound provide elective ultrasound sessions to further enhance the prenatal bonding between parent and baby. Our elective ultrasound services do not replace your physician diagnostic ultrasound. We at Shutterbugs Ultrasound want to make sure that you follow the proper procedures when choosing to have an elective ultrasound. To that end, we require ultrasound with their current physician or health care provider. Please print and submit the following form to your Doctor.

When Should I Have a 3D or 4D Ultrasound Done?
Depending on the type of package that
you desire, 16 to 34 weeks. For optimum results, we suggest visiting our facility
between 24-34 weeks when your baby is more developed. Women with twins should visit
no later then 27 weeks, since twins have less space.
What type of equipment is used at Shutter Bugs Ultrasound?
We use the Toshiba Xario XG, a leading brand in ultrasound equipment. The Toshiba Xario XG produces the best quality 32/4d images that you and your family will enjoy for years to come.
Will My Insurance Company Cover any of This?
Insurance does not cover 3D 4D prenatal
ultrasound. It is not considered a diagnostic ultrasound and therefore your insurance
company will not be billed. Payment in full is expected at the time the service is
performed. We accept cash, checks and major credit cards.
Can I Bring My Family/Friends
to My Ultrasound session?
Yes. In fact, we encourage you to invite up to 6 guests to attend. This is a wonderful and educational experience that will linger your memories for a lifetime.
Do I need to make an appointment?
Yes. All ultrasound sessions are scheduled by appointment only. We will be able to do evening and Saturday ultrasounds to better accommodate you and your family, but by appointment only.
What can I do to improve the quality of my ultrasound?
Staying well hydrated during your pregnancy and drinking plenty of water at least 5 days prior to your scheduled appointment. Hydration can really improve the clarity of an ultrasound. Also, try to have a good meal about an hour before your exam to maybe help you and the baby relax.
Will my ultrasound images always turn out the way I expect?
Usually. But sometimes the baby is persistently looking away from us or if hands and feet are in the way it may be difficult to see the baby’s face. Issues that can make images less than perfect are: the amount of fluid around the area of interest, the location of the placenta, age of the fetus, mother’s body habitus and fetal position. However, we do our best to get the best images of your baby! Each baby will scan differently and we can make no promises that the images will always meet your expectations. We do promise, however, to do everything we can to get the very best images possible.
